Remembrance from David Hull

I’m David Hull and my family (Bill and Wylodine Hull, David and Susan) often did things with our friends the Claypools during the time that John was our pastor at Crescent Hill. Here is one of my favorite experiences.

My Dad, Bill Hull, and John Claypool were best friends. This friendship began when they sat next to each other in Hebrew class at Southern Seminary. During the days that John was our pastor at Crescent Hill Baptist Church, our families would often get together for fellowship events. My favorite kind of event was when Rowan and I were able to go with our Dads to a ball game together. University of Louisville football games provided a fun experience for the boys and a chance for the Dads to talk. The men would immerse themselves in conversation on a Saturday night while pretending to watch the ball game. Was the discussion about their sermons the next day, some deep theological interpretation, or a problem in the church? I don’t know. I was too focused on the game with Rowan. Occasionally we had to let the Dads know that the Cardinals had scored! Good times at the old Fairgrounds Stadium.

Many years after the football games with young sons, friends reunite in Birmingham at Bill Hull’s 65th birthday celebration. (Pictured are John Claypool, Wylodine Hull, and David Hull)
