Celebrate Rev. John R. Claypool

Glad Reunion 2022

You are invited to come to Louisville, KY, the weekend of September 16-18 to celebrate and explore the work of The Rev. Dr. John R. Claypool, pastor, preacher, theologian, teacher, and advocate for civil rights and women’s leadership in the church.

Taken from the title of Claypool’s book, Glad Reunion, this gathering is designed to look back so that we might better understand the present and move faithfully into the future. It is also a time to see old friends, make new friends, share stories, and break bread together.

We will look back at Claypool’s 55 year ministry career in congregational settings and in the academy through a variety of presentation formats and in worship. Among the presenters are scholars, colleagues, and students who contributed to a new collection of essays, soon to be published by Mercer University Press under the title, CLAYPOOL.

The weekend is intended to offer those not familiar with Claypool’s work an introduction to an eminent leader in the recent history of American Christianity and to provide those who have been touched by his ministry an opportunity to connect and reconnect. Register now on Eventbrite.

    Quotes

We must never forget that today's legendary achievements-awesome as they may seem-were yesterday's risky adventures. Courage is not the capacity never to be afraid; as Karl Barth reminds us, 'Courage is fear that has said its prayers.'

    Quotes

We do not first get all the answers and then live in the light of our understanding. We must rather plunge into life meeting what we have to meet and experiencing what we have to experience and in the light of living try to understand. if insight comes at all, it will not before, but only through and after experience.

    Quotes

If we are willing, the experience of grief can deepen and widen our ability to participate in life.

    Quotes

The real meaning of mercy is that it can look on failure and still see a future.
